In light of last year's COP15 Conference, the challenges posed by climate change have become even more lucid, highlighting the profound impact climate change continues to have upon societies, cultures and environments worldwide. This conference seeks to address the various types of adjustments we can make now in order to create a sustainable difference. It will also shed light upon how the challenges of climate change are influencing how we envision our future in various ways. The RUC Sunrise Triple C Conference is a post-COP15 conference inspired by the idea that addressing climate change is a multi-disciplinary endeavor that has only just begun.
The Sunrise Conference will explore climate change through three different lenses: culture, communication and clean-technology.
The impacts of climate change, both within society and our daily lives, are becoming increasingly overwhelming. The Sunrise conference would like to turn its attention to the pragmatic, as well as visionary options of addressing various climate change challenges, by creating a forum for multi-disciplinary research, actions and events. The conference encompasses a global perspective on various sustainable urban and rural regional transition paths toward mitigating and adapting to climate change.
The Sunrise conference spans over three days, where academics, scientists, business people, civil society, NGOs, activists and students are invited to meet in order to share and discuss their research and work as it pertains to climate change.
Culture: Climate change is radically challenging nearly all aspects of human culture, from micro-level individual habits of transportation and consumption to the macro-level organization of global institutions and networks. Some of the questions we would like to explore include: What are the cultural tools of mitigating and adapting to climate change? What is a sustainable culture? Does climate change declare a renaissance of nature in culture?
Communication: How we communicate about climate change within the media and our everyday lives can have a profound impact on the actions we decide to take. Communicating about climate change requires correctly reported information in the media, as well as the articulation of ownership, participation and action amongst all relevant stakeholders. How can communication serve as a fundamental articulator of social mobilization in the mitigation of and adaptation to climate change?
Clean-Technology: Mitigation and adaptation to climate changes has a technical aspect that influences most sectors of our societies. The technological aspect focuses on the design and implementation of clean-tech solutions in sectors such as energy production, transport, agriculture, and manufacturing. What are the barriers to the implementation of climate technology and what actions are needed to bring about the required changes?
