This session will be facilitated by Martin Lidegaard, Chairman of the Danish Green Think-Tank Concito.

Ib Poulsen, Vice-Chancellor of Roskilde University will give the welcoming speech.

DAY 2: 21 APRIL IN BUILDING 40.1

Day two of the Sunrise conference will bring together academics, climate researchers, business people, NGOs, activists and students, all with the aim of obtaining a grasp on the cultural, communicative and systematic technological options for climate change mitigation and adaptation worldwide.

We are please to welcome a diverse group of over 50 international researchers to present their work on April 21. There will be a host of different workshops broken up into three different tracks focusing on culture, communication and clean-technology. RUC students will also be presenting their own research posters. Those without papers or projects are still welcome to join.

Day two will begin with a welcoming speech by Valery Forbes, the head of the ENSPAC department at RUC. She will be followed by a keynote speech given by Minou Fuglesang,  Executive Director of the Civil Society Organization Femina HIP, a multimedia platform in Tanzania.

Afterwards, Evan Selinger, Associate Professor in Philosophy at the Rochester Institute of Technology and Graduate Program Faculty at the Golisano Institute of Sustainability, will give a speech.

A full day of workshops will follow, wrapping up between 17.15-17.45, with a closing session by Fuglesang and Selinger.

DAY 3: 22 APRIL ABOARD THE KLIMAEXPRESS

Day three of the conference consists of a field trip where participants will travel throughout the region of Zealand in collaboration with Klimaexpress and Green Study Tours. There will be two different routes to chose from, both stopping at various interesting locations throughout the region, in order to see what types of sustainable development initiatives are taking place at the local level.

Option 1 will take participants to Kalundborg Symbiosis. The idea behind Kalundborg Symbiosis is that companies utilize each other's residual and biproducts on a commercial basis. Symbiosis is composed of seven companies working together and using one another as resources, in order to see if it is possible to increase their individual production without using more energy, raw materials and/or water.

Symbiosis combines these seven companies and the municipality of Kaldunborg together, to work on twenty different projects, all with the goal of improving environmental standards through efficiency, development, and information exchange on the utilization of bi-products in industry.

On this visit, partcipants will be introduced to Symbiosis and the complex organization behind it. Afterwards, participants will visit some of the companies in order to get an inside view on the production; speaking with and learning from people working with symbiosis on a daily basis and getting to know some of the challenges and benefits of symbiosis.

You can read more about the interesting concept of symbiosis on this website or read about the companies (primarily in Danish) involved with symbiosis here:

The energy company DONG Energy Asnæs Power Station, the plasterboard factory Gyproc A/S, the pharmaceutical plant Novo Nordisk A/S, the enzyme producer Novozymes A/S, the oil refinery Statoil A/S, RGS 90 A/S, the  waste company Kara/Noveren I/S and Kalundborg Municipality

Option 2 will take participants to Risø and Bevola. Risø is the National Laboratory for Sustainable Energy at the Technical University of Denmark (DTU). Research conducted at Risø is problem-driven, similarly to the way research at RUC is designed. Risø is one of Europe’s leading research laboratories within the field of sustainable energy and nuclear technology. They research many interesting topics such as, solar energy, wind energy, fuel cells and hydrogen, bioenergy, fusion energy, climate and energy systems and nuclear technologies.

On the visit, participants will get an introduction to RISØ as a research center and educational area. Thereafter we will have the chance to visit some of the different research areas to talk with professors and researchers about their newest research within the area of sustainable energy solutions. Here we will be able to discuss and better understand some of the challenges and possibilities in their research findings.

Bevola – Simply Better Solutions:

Bevola makes products and solutions for building transport equipment, special products out of aluminum, as well as ramps and platforms for the transportation and disability sector. They place a strong emphasis on reducing the CO2 emissions from the transportation of their own products through innovation and making their products lighter, thus requiring less gas to transport them.

At Bevola, we will meet the Director, Tommy Horn, who will give us an introduction to the company’s work and ambitions toward new, sustainable products. He will also give us a guided tour, providing an inside view of the organization and production of the company.
