Nordic Network of Urban and Regional Researchers:
Multidisciplinary approaches to urban and regional research are important for the understanding of complex socio-spatial processes, and researchers are increasingly encouraged to cooperate across disciplinary and national borders.
In autumn 2010, we organised a Nordic Urban Workshop at the Centre for Urban Research at the University of Ørebro, Sweden, where PhD-students joined to discuss our research and to get to know each other at the Nordic level. We are interested in bringing together scholars sharing interests in urban and regional research, and to join resources across institutions and disciplines for the exchange of experience, knowledge and for the potential of shared research projects. The Nordic region is a geographical area in which both cultural and historical similarities and local and national differences call for comparative thinking and projects. A range of institutions are working on urban and regional topics in the Nordic region, and it is our belief that more cooperation between them can contribute with new knowledge about the empirical phenomena studied in the Nordic countries, and consequently to foster new, theoretical insights.
The aims of the network are:
- To establish contact between researchers who are interested in cross-disciplinary urban studies in the Nordic region, who are early in their careers, yet not limited to it
- To advance a broad and relational viewof the socio-spatial processes characterising the urban and regional research object and to engage in discussions about the concepts and analytical frameworks with which we target it
- To foster dialogue and cooperationbetween researchers engaged in empirical urban and regional studies in the Nordic countries, though not exclusively
- To engage in discussions on how our research can be joined in potential comparative projects at the Nordic level and beyond
- To provide a forumfor urban scholars where information is exchanged about relevant research, literature, academic job and grant opportunities
- To promote discussions about methodologies and research practices, teaching practices and action research addressed by urban and regional research questions
At the Nordic Geography Meeting in Roskilde, we organise the workshop "Social Justice and the City - Way forward?", where we wish to engage discussions interesting to the network.
We welcome everyone interested in joining the discussions and network to come to the workshop and to join the drink/ dinner at Restaurant Bryggegården at Algade 15 in Roskilde town, Wednesday 25 May 2011 at 19.30.
