Abstract

Working on a project for people exposed to what in mainstream psychology is conceptualised as trauma, a ’conduct of everyday life’ approach to personal dilemmas in the aftermath of the ’traumatic’ event revealed a multiplicity of perspectives on the meanings of personal experiences.

Furthermore these perspectives as they were expressed in the project raised questions as to whether the concepts of  ’primary and secondary traumatisation’  do open up for at nuanced understanding of personal experiences in the wake of such events.

My presentation attempts at developing an alternative conceptualisation, thus understanding persons perspectives and problems as related to personally important and severe disruptions of conditions for - and meanings - of the conduct of everyday life.
