Abstract

This paper will explore the intersections between digital technologies and spatial design at ‘experience sites’ (places designed with the purpose of providing experiences of leisure, for example museums, parks, waterworlds... and other sites of the cultural- and experience economy). The link between digital design and spatial design will be explored. How are these two fused with the purpose of creating enjoyable experiences? When does digital + spatial design in real world spaces work particularly well from a user perspective? Which problems are there in the connections between digital and spatial design – again from a user perspective?  I would like to present a number of examples, and hope to present both the design intent – what is the idea – and to discuss how the design works in user practices.

The purpose is to build insight into state of the art examples of digital-spatial design, and to contribute with empirically based knowledge about how this kind of design is used by users/visitors.
