Invitation

Invitation to the IVth Nordic Geographers Meeting Roskilde 2011

Dear friends and colleagues,

We are very delighted to invite you to attend the 4th Nordic Geographers Meeting in Roskilde, Denmark, in May 2011. While Roskilde previously has hosted the Nordic symposium of critical human geography, this will be the first time the Nordic Geographers Meeting is held in Denmark.

The three previous NGM meetings were successfully organized in Lund, Sweden (2005), Bergen Norway (2007) and Turku, Finland (2009). We are working hard to make sure that participants will have good experiences during their stay in Roskilde.

The theme of the conference is 'Geographical knowledge, nature and practice'. The production and use of geographical knowledge in society has become a critical issue in relation to both human and physical geography. This is evident in relation to current geo-political conflict and relations as well as in debates on how to tackle climate change, to mention only two critical issues both pointing to the needs for connecting scientific and conceptual analysis and societal practice on different scales.

As by now we are very pleased to announce the following list of confirmed keynote speakers:

  • Bruce Braun, University of Minnesota (US)
  • Luiza Bialasiewicz, Royal Holloway, University of London (GB)
  • Morten Pejrup, Copenhagen University (DK)
  • Ole Hertel, Aarhus University (DK)
  • Gillian Rose, The Open University (GB)
  • Kirsten Simonsen, Roskilde University (DK)
  • Nigel Thrift, University of Warwick (GB)

The organizing committee will during the coming months work hard to organize an interesting and wide-ranging program, and as soon as we are able to we will announce session themes and the preliminary program on these pages. So please bookmark this site and check for updated information in the near future.

Hope to see you in Roskilde May 24th-27th 2011!

Michael Haldrup,
Chair of the Organizing Committee
